roads.gg offers location tracking features to help you navigate road closures:
Track Location
The radar button (concentric circles icon) enables continuous GPS tracking. When active:
- Your position is shown as a blue marker on the map
- The marker updates in real-time as you move with smooth position interpolation
- You can still pan, zoom, and explore the map freely
- The map does not automatically follow your movement
This mode is ideal when you want to see where you are while browsing the map or planning a route. GPS positions are smoothed to reduce jitter from signal variations.
Driving Mode (Mobile Only)
The compass button enables full navigation mode. When active:
- Automatically enables location tracking
- Camera locked to your position (continuously centered on you)
- Map automatically zooms to navigation level (zoom 17) for better detail
- Map rotates to match your device direction - the compass icon rotates in real-time as visual feedback
- Direction cone shows which way you're facing
- Keeps screen awake
- Auto-disables after 15 minutes of inactivity
Note: Driving mode uses GPS continuously and may drain battery faster. It requires both location permission and device orientation permission (on iOS).
